Today I’m sharing with you 2016’s Top 10 Healthiest Dishes!
Every January the whole family is ready to eat clean. We’ve eaten our share of Christmas cookies and sweet treats, we’ve wined and dined to our hearts’ content, and everyone needs a bit of a food break. I’ve gathered the most viewed healthy dishes from my website for 2016. I was surprised to see that they are overwhelming vegetarian and gluten free dishes! So for 2017, I’m listening, and will be posting more of what you all seem to be seeking, healthy, low-carb and gluten free dishes.
The most viewed (healthiest) recipe on my site for 2016 was a Whole30 compliant recipe, Tomato Mushroom Spaghetti Squash. Spaghetti Squash is such a versatile vegetable and the perfect substitute for pasta! Click here to see the MOST viewed recipe for the last 3 years.
The number 2 spot belongs to an oldie but goodie, Cheesy Spinach and Mushroom Breakfast Casserole. First posted in 2011, I re-did the photos in the fall, added the word “cheesy” to the title and it went crazy! I’ll make it on the weekend and it’s usually lasts another 3 days for a quick on-the-go breakfast for the family.
Number 3 is another older recipe that’s also vegetarian and gluten free; Mediterranean Quinoa Salad with Pesto, Artichokes and Pesto.
The next one really surprised me, as Brussels Sprouts are not my favorite vegetable! But Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Pecans took the number 4 slot!
The Number 5 most viewed healthy recipe was Gluten Free Tomato Cheese Tart, which is another low-carb, vegetarian and gluten free dish, perfect for breakfast or lunch.
Holding the Number 6 spot is Curried Cauliflower Soup. This recipe is one of my all-time favorites. It also checks just about every box, gluten free, vegetarian (with an easy vegan option), low-carb and loaded with flavor. If you like Indian food, put this recipe on your list!
Number 7 is another salad. This show-stopping Citrus Salad with Orange Dijon Vinaigrette is perfect for a brunch or luncheon.
Pear and Gorgonzola Salad with Candied Pecans has been a favorite for years. It makes an elegant lunch or dinner salad and it’s my go-to dish for bridal or baby showers. I’ll add sliced chicken breast when I serve it as a main meal. It’s the Number 8 most viewed healthy recipe for 2016.
Number 9 is Singapore Hot Pot. This versatile soup is the perfect dish for a family with picky eaters. Serve the condiments on the side and everyone can spice up their bowl to their own taste. Instead of chicken, you can substitute shrimp or tofu. The shirataki noodles are made from yams, but have the look and taste of rice noodles, so it’s also gluten free and low carb.
In the Number 10 spot is another recipe from 2011. Chinese Lettuce Wraps have been a consistent reader favorite, as they’re low-carb, healthy, gluten free, and a great way to stretch a pound of ground meat.

What a fine collection of healthy and delicious recipes! Hot pot is my favorite family dish – very easy to make, all you need is a base soup and food ingredients that you like and almost anything works – from vegetables to meat to bean curds! Yes, you put the condiments is on the side and each family member can have a different combo, which gives the food very different flavors! It can be very healthy when you add lots of vegetables to it – the volume of leafy greens shrinks instantly to 10% of it and with the condiments, all vegetables are a delightful treat!
