White chocolate dipped halloween pretzels.

I found some cute Halloween pretzels at Target this year, but knew I could make a much better version at home! The Halloween pretzels at Target were covered in candy melts and tasted pretty awful, (I bought them for research). This is a super easy and fun Halloween treats to make with the kiddos!

Ingredients for chocolate covered Halloween pretzels

These are made with white chocolate, but dark or milk chocolate works as well. We copied the Target pretzels and made mummies and ones with colorful Halloween sprinkles. While white candy melts are easier to use, they don’t taste very good. If you care about the taste use a better quality white chocolate.

How to make Halloween mummy pretzels

These spooky Halloween pretzels are fun treat to make for a children’s Halloween party and a lot less sugary. With just two ingredients and the candy eyes, they’re super fast as well! Pack them in cellophane Halloween Bags.

  • Prepare a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a Silpat Baking Mat to catch the excess chocolate and a baking rack.
  • Choose a microwave-safe bowl or this Pyrex measuring cup
  • Heat the white chocolate chips in the microwave or over a double boiler.
  • If using the microwave, heat the chocolate up slowly 20 seconds at a time, stirring occasionally.
  • To heat in a double boiler, bring water to simmer over medium-low heat until melted, stirring occasionally.
  • If you don’t have a double boiler, place a glass bowl over a saucepan, making sure the bottom of the bowl doesn’t touch the heat. Transfer chocolate into a tall heat proof container or glass measuring cup.
  • Tip the measuring cup, and dip the pretzel rods into the white chocolate, swirling to coat the sides of the pretzel. Don’t coat the whole pretzel, leave about 1/3 so little hands can grip pretzels without getting chocolate all over their fingers.

  • Place chocolate covered pretzel rods on wire racks over prepared baking sheet.
  • If the chocolate gets too thick, add a teaspoon or two of melted coconut oil and stir.
  • Let the pretzels cool about 3-5 minutes before adding the candy eyes so they don’t slip off.
  • Using a small spoon or a squeeze bottle filled with melted chocolate and drizzle lines across the mummies to mimic wrappings.
  • The third mummy from the left is the Target inspiration mummy.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container. No need to refrigerate!

What do I do when the chocolate becomes too thick to dip?

If the chocolate becomes to thick to dip it might have “seized”. When water or moisture comes in contact with the chocolate it can seize or firm up. If this happens, add a small amount of coconut oil and whisk it vigorously. A small amount of very hot water can be slowly added, 1 teaspoon at a time to bring it back to dipping consistency. Whisk or stir well until it’s fully incorporated.

SOOO much better than store-bought! That fake white coating is truly inedible and these are so much fun to make, too! Thanks for sharing.
